Questions & statements to ponder while you are deciding if this college tour is for your child.
Do I want to expose my child to as many experiences as I can?
The world is a gigantic place with billions of options! Kentucky and Ohio are wonderful places to live & go to school but there are a lot of other wonderful places to go to school and meet people you would otherwise never meet.
My child has already selected a school to attend so no need to send him or her on this kind of tour? That's great! Did you know teenagers are subject to change their minds frequently? They are highly impressionable beings who can be easily positively and negatively influenced.
My child is only in ninth grade, we have plenty of time to go on a college tour. Yes but no. High school goes by really fast! Preparation for college now begins in 3rd and 4th grade and you will ALWAYS give your child a head start if you expose them to multiple options for college earlier than later. AND, excitement will be created within your child once they return from their college tour. It is a truly enriching experience for the students and the chaperones.
My child is in 12th grade. It is really too late to send him or her on a college tour. Respectfully, this is not true. College admissions continue until the first day of school. Therefore, if your child returns from this college tour and decides he or she wants to attend one of the schools, they can still apply. Better yet, they will have the ability to speak DIRECTLY to the admissions department while visiting the university!
My child is kind of immature. I don't know how he or she will behave on a trip like this. Respectfully, this college tour is NOT for your child. Students who misbehave are sent home at the parents expense. Period. There are no exceptions made for bad behavior including talking back, cussing, disrespecting ANYONE, throwing things, stealing (police called), smoking (parents notified to pick up), doing drugs (police called), arguing, fighting (police called) or anything else that negatively impacts the group. Students are EXPECTED to be respectful at all times. This includes ending cell phone use while presenters are speaking and during presentations. Students who refuse requests to discontinue cell phone use will be told to contact their parent to pick them up. Again, ZERO tolerance for disrespect. This college tour is a chance for students to discover, to become informed, create excitement and be exposed to possibilities. Therefore, any person who is on this tour for any other reason should not attend.
